Have you ever walked into a space or a room and felt immediately at peace when you love what you see?  Our human bodies respond instantly to the energy around us through emotion and feeling. Recently, I had a wonderful conversation with one of my styling clients about energy, flow and the power of organization in the home, a.k.a Feng Shui. It inspired me to reflect and I noticed how much clutter we tend to accumulate, even when we think we are organized and neat. Every space in your home should be clear of clutter and confusion. Every Friday I am going to help you focus on bringing Feng Shui into every space in your home helping you to maximize the abundance that is coming your way. Let it flow!!!!!

Let’s begin, as any good stylist would, in your closet. Feng Shui, is the Chinese art of organizing your space to reduce or remove bad luck and maximize good fortune. Your closet, like the rest of your house, should be clean, clear of clutter and exuding warmth. In other words, what you need is a Feng Shui makeover. Following are ways in which you can organize your closet the Feng Shui way:

Feng-Shui-Organized-Closet

Let’s keep it simple……….

  • Pull everything out of your closet – clean and wipe down and give your closet a fresh coat of paint if necessary.
  • Look into some type of organization system. Incorporate decorative boxes and storage pieces and look into closet organizing systems sold at stores or inquire with local closet experts. This will maximize your organization and make your closet appealing to the eye.
  • Use all the same hangers
  • Organize your clothing by category – long sleeve blouses – short sleeve- pants – skirts – blazers – dresses, next in each category organize by color – light to dark.
  • Clear anything you haven’t worn in a year and pieces you do NOT LOVE! You are on your way to building a closet full of clothes you that absolutely make you feel fabulous.
  • Donate and/or Consign the pieces that no longer serve you, they will serve someone else.
  • If you have any feeling of “guilt” around an item of clothing for example, this feeling may be based on how much you spent on it at one time. This is not a positive, productive emotion and the past is gone, the future is now and the power is in the present, remove these items to free up room for more goodness.

You are on your way to maximizing the greatness that your life has in store for you.

Happy Feng Shui Friday, looking forward to following up with you soon.

Yours in style,

Debbie

It’s a brand new year, a year of new beginnings, a fresh start, a clean plate.   If you’re like me you  love this time to refocus your thinking and to begin approaching life in the most positive way.  By now, you have all heard these words many times and many of you hear the words but don’t put the words to action. This is the month to commit to taking action for YOU!   My experiences continue to show me every single day the true power that comes from a having a positive self-image.  A great practice every day is to look into your bathroom mirror and begin to see and acknowledge  all of the good first!  For example, complement your beautiful eyes, your long neck, your perfect nose, your great shoulders (btw,  every body type looks good in clothing that reveals a little shoulder).  I know that many of you begin the new year with goals to get in shape to be healthier and to ultimately look and feel better, as do I.  Begin to experience the power that you will release instantly when you begin to see your beautiful reflection.  You will reach goals beyond your wildest imagination and you will enjoy the rewards of your choices every step of the way.  Here are a few of my style tips that will instantly help you to feel thinner and better about yourself TODAY.  ENJOY THE JOURNEY.

I have 5 ways to Style Yourself Skinny that will help you to begin looking at  yourself differently and positively TODAY!  What a powerful way to tackle each new opportunity to work towards your goals for 2011.

Tip # 1. Look at the LINES! The lines in a top can draw the eye in and create the illusion of a small waistline – even if we have eaten too many holiday cookies.

It all about drawing the eye in at the waist even if you tend to carry some extra weight in the middle. The lines in a garment can make you look like you have just lost 10 lbs while keeping you comfortable, confident and looking slim.   If you have a long torso and a small waist BELT IT – the belt should hit right under the ribcage paired with a fitted top and you will look like a runway model.

This Diane von Furstenburg top found on http://www.shopstyle.com is a great choice! It’s an A-line shape and the lines will work their magic.

Tip #2  Wear smooth undergarments – the way your dressed under your clothes does more for your look that the outside layer.  A nude bra and smooth panties,  set the foundation for looking smooth and skinny in your clothing choices on a daily basis.   My favorite undergarments are from Soma Intimates – their  vanishing lines technology eliminates any visible panty lines of the past, they are amazing! http://www.soma.com.

Tip #3 Wear black opaque tights with black platform pumps or black shoe booties. This emphasizes the leg beautifully and makes any leg look long and lean. My favorite, the SPANX opaque tights. They sell a reversible pair that offers 2 for 1, one side is black and one side is brown.  There are also other color combinations available.   I LIVE in these tights all winter long – they are comfortable and the wear like iron. They wash and wear beautifully, you will love the way your look wearing these tights.

Tip #4 Wear the right style hat for your body shape. It is TRUE, looking your best is all about balance and proportion and this applies to hat styles as well. Hats add a flair of style to any outfit. Select a hat that compliments your skin tone then choose your outfit based off of the hat choice.  Full figured women need to choose a hat with a wide brim to balance their frame while a petite frame should wear a hat that is smaller in shape and more delicate.  Your face shape should be considered when choosing the best style hat for you.  For example, a round face looks best in a hat with a wide brim while a wider face looks best with a more round style of hat like a beret.

Tip #5 Last but certainly not least think about your posture. Having good posture can instantly enhance your figure and by standing taller with your shoulders back – your frame will appear leaner.

At last – I always like to leave you with a great quote!   Now, go be beautiful and enjoy the day.

“It is not enough to take steps which may some day lead to a goal; each step must be itself a goal and a step likewise.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Yours in style,
Debbie

I am constantly asked by women over 30, how to dress trendy and stylish without looking too young. The fashion magazines are filled with wonderful, fun, feminine and for the most part functional clothing options for this season. Gone are the days of impractical, disposable trends that NO ONE would ever wear. I am thrilled to see the runways filled with fashions from several designers like Stella McCartney and Donna Karan that exude and flatter real women who want to be stylish AND comfortable!

Here are a few of my recommendations to turn up the heat in your closet this Spring.

1)BUY A SCARF IN A COLOR AND/OR PRINT.

Adding a scarf as an accent to a basic tee long sleeve or short with a pair of jeans adds instant STYLE. Purchase this scarf in a color that enhances the color of your eyes, aqua and purple are great colors to enhance brown eyes. Pinks and greens look great with blue eyes. This is an easy and fun way to spice up a casual look.

My scarf website recommendation is:

2) BUY A PAIR OF ANIMAL PRINT SHOES.

A pair of zebra print ballet flats or a cheetah print wedge can add an instant boost of style to your wardrobe this spring. Animals prints can be worn back with the great colors of the season, the corals, greens, blues and yellows. Wear them with casual dresses and/or jeans.

My website recommendation:

They have a pair from Spiegel – a buckled, animal print wedge $44.00
STOP IT.. too cute.

3)BUY A FEW FUN DRESSES THIS SPRING.

Dresses are easy, comfortable and make a simple and polished statement this season for ANY woman regardless of lifestyle or budget. Look to add a few different styles into your closet. Add a black, one of color and perhaps a printed dress. You will find them easier and more comfortable than pants and a shirt some days.

A few of my affordable favorite dresses can be found on:

http://www.topshop.com.

I found a great cotton smock dress in navy blue for only $70.00, so cute worn with a simple scarf and flip flops and or a cute pair of ankle boots.

4) BUY A SLEEVELESS VEST.

This trend is a take off of the must-wear cardigan for layering this Spring and Summer. Layering and accessorizing are fun and easy ways to always look polished and trendy. They can be worn over tank tops or tee shirts, or with a blouse for different look.

I found a great Ellen Tracy sleeveless black vest for $79.50 on:

Happy Spring SHOPPING!

and remember…

PRESENT YOUR PERSONAL BEST EVERY DAY – YOU DESERVE IT.
